There are many different ways to get money from donaters to finance the cost of relief programs and infrastructures. Often in NGO’s the majority of the donation income is provided by institutional doners. Different governements or big companies donate millions for a year. But they want to see results and make sure that the money is well spent. Therefore they have a team of consultants which each year go through the accounts and check the expenses and verify that is money is not being wasted or stollen. It is then quite important to archive every transaction to make sure that a there is a record of everything. Then in case of a problem or a doubt they can be consulted and used to verify certain expenses.
Donations are also collected from the general public. There are several methods used to raise such donations. The first is to do advertising, creating videos, having and updated website, giving flyers, organising events, radio and television broadcast etc. On the best ways is adverstising, a typical way is to send out letters to a lot of people, asking them for donations, out of the thousands of letters send a couple hundred will become donaters. Then special events can be organised and all the revenue will go to the ONG such as a sponsored race. Where the runners raise money from divers sponsors, friends and family, the money collected then is donated. Videos explaining the field situation and needs and the objectivs of the ONG can also be broadcasted on the national television, this will have a lot of audience and will be sure to get new donations. All year round a team is working on getting donations in all these different forms, because it is important to keep a steady amount of cash to do suddenly be overwelmed by a project or to run out.
